The Health & Continence Institute is pleased to offer yet another quality program in the identification of treatment of incontinence in nursing homes, skilled facilities and assisted living.
The goals of the HCI model is to train the advanced practice cliniction to effectively identify those residents with incontinence and to treat them in compliance with F tag 315 requirements in order in insure bladder health.
In doing this it hope to change the focus of care from incontinence management to incontinence prevention.

Two Models
These goals can readily be met through accessing the services offered by the Health & Continence Institute. There are two models.
HCI will work with both the faciity and the intended provider to determine which model best suits their collective needs and intentions.
The first model primarily involves the training of the APC’s within your organization, either as an employee or independently contracted, or HCI can provide a continence care specialist who will be independently contracted by HCI. In either case the clinician will have the opportunity to be trained at HCI.
The second model, HCI will assist the facilitiy to work with NP's who will be independent practitioners. HCI can also provide assistance in recruiting, marketing, and credentialing.
Objectives:
To establish a bladder health program in a community extended care facility in order to increase access to health care for those residents who would otherwise have no options in the treatment of incontinence.
To decrease the incidence of incontinence, urinary tract infections, perineal irritation, and falls by effectively managing bladder/bowel problems.
The Process
To insure adequate involvement of the attending physician, medical director, and consulting physicians.
To develop a core team comprising administration, physicians, nursing staff, and HCI.
To develop tools to identify and manage residents with bladder/bowel problems.
Education
To train and educate the medical personnel involved in the program in the current and comprehensive treatment of bladder problems.
To educate residents, families, and nursing staff that bladder problems are not an expected part of growing old and that certain non-invasive measures can either cure or improve bladder health.
To train the staff in the methodologies of the bladder health program and how to use the tools to identify those residents with bladder health problems and those at risk of developing.
To educate residents and their families in the components of the bladder health program..
Management
To develop a comprehensive approach in the identification and treatment of residents with bladder/bowel problems.
To decrease the number of incontinent episodes by educating residents in the use of the kegels exercises, through the use of biofeedback and electrical stimulation.
To shorten the stay of a temporary resident by getting their bladder problems resolved more quickly. .
Model
To serve as a model for the establishment of similar programs whose residents may benefit from the identification and treatment of bladder health problems.
Dignity
To simply help residents maintain the dignity they so deserve as they age.
